11 points of Justice: Indian Peoples Council Demands Judicial Oversight and Independent Inquiry After Air India Crash: A National Call for Justice and Accountability
Ahmedabad, India — June 18, 2025
The Indian Peoples Council expresses its deepest grief and anger over the catastrophic crash of Air India Flight AI171 on June 12, 2025, which has resulted in the deaths of over 270 people, including innocent civilians on the ground in Ahmedabad — notably students, healthcare staff, and working families.
This tragedy maybe an accident or potential systemic failure. Those responsible , if responsible, must be held accountable. We reject any attempt to sanitize the scale of this disaster or shield institutions from scrutiny.
“Those who may have blood on their hands must not turn it into ink to write the report.” (Parmar. A, Chairman, IPC)
OUR DEMANDS — FOR JUSTICE, ACCOUNTABILITY, AND PUBLIC INTEREST:
- Absolute Exclusion of Conflicted Parties
Boeing, GE Aerospace, TATA Group, Air India, and all airport and ground handling operators must be barred from participating in the investigation in any capacity. - No Political Appointments to the Inquiry
The investigation must be staffed by independent aviation experts, legal scholars, civil society representatives, technical professionals, and victims’ advocates.
- Judicial Oversight
The investigation must operate under the direct and binding supervision of a sitting High Court or Supreme Court judge, with powers to summon, interrogate, and publish findings. - Complete Transparency
All evidence, black box data, communications, maintenance logs, and procedural documentation must be submitted to Parliament and released in full to the public. - Independent, Binding Time-Limit & Transparent Procedure
The inquiry must follow a pre-declared structure, with public milestones and a legally binding deadline. Delays and secretive processes are unacceptable. - Protection Against Bureaucratic Victimization
We categorically reject the imposition of cruel, convoluted, and kafkaesque bureaucratic processes on the families of the deceased and injured. Aid and justice must not be buried in paperwork. - Fair and Internationally Benchmarked Compensation
Compensation to victims must meet or exceed international civil aviation disaster standards, including both financial and social restitution. - Recognition of All Categories of Victims
Victims include:
- The deceased
- Those injured physically or psychologically
- Those who lost homes, property, or means of livelihood
- Bystanders and students exposed to trauma and displacement
- Streamlined Relief, Aid & Information Access
Survivors and families must receive immediate, centralized support services, including psychological assistance, legal aid, and real-time status updates. - Inquiry into Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Emergency Response
Disaster management systems failed. Their structure, preparedness, and chain of command must be independently audited.
- Investigation of Ahmedabad Police’s Conduct
Delays, confusion, and a visibly disorganized police response must be formally investigated, with individual accountability fixed.
This is a moment of reckoning. We demand that this not be treated as an administrative event but a crisis that merits national moral and legal clarity. Anything short of structural reform would be a betrayal of the victims.
